1. Check the room before ordering

Before finalising the kitchen order, check:

• wall measurements
• ceiling height
• floor level
• corners and out-of-square walls
• plumbing and waste positions
• gas points
• sockets and appliance points
• extractor route
• boiler or pipework conflicts

This is where a fitter can spot problems before they become expensive.

2. Confirm what is happening to the old kitchen

Ask whether removal and disposal are included. A full kitchen strip-out creates more waste than most people expect, especially if tiles, flooring or worktops are coming out too.

3. Plan the services

The old kitchen can hide damaged walls, uneven floors or poor previous work. Ask what happens if the room needs patching, skimming or levelling before the new kitchen goes in.

6. Get a written scope

Before work starts, make sure the quote explains:

• what is included
• what is excluded
• who handles each trade
• expected sequence
• payment stages
• what happens with snagging

A clear scope protects both sides.

7. Keep one person accountable

When several trades are involved, it helps to have one person managing the practical result. Otherwise the homeowner can end up coordinating the job and chasing answers.
